Though California’s Energy Code has been around since 1978, it is the changes that went into effect in October 2005 that have had the most profound impact on metal buildings. Contractors and builders are required to deal with these changes as part of the building permit application, including the construction documents and the compliance forms. This article, posted on the Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) website, was written to help contractors better understand the changes. The author was the association’s W. Lee Shoemaker, P.E., Ph.D. Points of discussion include approaches to compliance, and lighting and mechanical requirements. Provided are links to more detailed information.
