The proper selection of coating thickness to meet a user’s needs for galvanized steel sheet requires some knowledge of the relative corrosiveness of the environment in which the product will be used. The thickness of the znc coating largely determines its ultimate life, but is not used directly to specify the amount of coating. This document, created by The GalvInfo Center, explains why galvanized sheet coatings are specified in coating weight or coating mass, but not coating thickness.
