Published by the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association (NAIMA), this fact sheet discusses the ability of metal building insulation to greatly reduce the transmission of exterior sounds to the interior of a metal building, and the ability of metal building insulation to absorb reverberating sounds inside the structure. Discussed in the document are sound absorption coefficient, noise reduction coefficient (NRC), sound transmission loss, sound transmission class (STC) and outdoor-indoor transmission class (OITC). Also included are examples of metal wall and roof assemblies, with their STC and OITC ratings.
