A part of the Blackhawk Halsted mixed-use development near Chicago's North Side, the newly recently completed British School features panels from MeTecno USA's Benchmark and Morin divisions.
From the Benchmark Division, approximately 45,000 sq. ft. of Designwall™ 2000 series insulated panels were utilized. That panel features a double-gasket shiplap joint in both vertical and horizontal applications to maximize thermal efficiency and create a double barrier against air and water penetration. This is especially significant in the infamous Windy City.
"We decided to specifically choose this product because of aesthetics," explains architect David Rasche of Valerio Dewalt and Train, the project's Chicago-based architectural firm. "The corrugated panel is well suited to be installed along the curved surface and show uniformity. The insulated panel is modular/linear, quick and easy to install, provides adequate R-value as well as the water barrier for the building. Both MeTecno USA products are painted steel so getting the desired color and finish was not a problem."
The corrugated panels were 20-gauge X-12 from MeTecno USA's Morin Division. Approximately 15,000 sq. ft. of the concealed fastening ribbed panels were utilized. Typically, X-12 panels are fabricated from galvanized steel, galvalume, aluminum, or stainless steel. Stretch ribs on these profiles are optional and may be eliminated. Coatings come in 16 colors to enhance appearance and provide extended weatherability.
Structured Development LLC was the project's developer. Handling the installation of the metal panel systems was All American Exterior Solutions of Lake Zurich, IL.
The British School building is one of three structures in the development. In addition to the 80,000-square-foot school building, there is a 146,000 sq. ft. commercial building—also clad in metal—and a 547-car parking structure.
The British School teaches important values and maintains high standards in the classroom. To those who want their children educated in British style, this institution promises superior world class learning.
"MeTecno USA is happy to be associated with such a prestigious school," said Rachel Scholan, marketing manager of MeTecno USA. "Not only does its sleek metal and glass design separate itself from others, but its distinct reputation is something we are proud to be apart of."
