Metallic Building Company Supplies Clear Span Structure For Interior Design Flexibility
The design of this 20,204 square-foot Social Security Administration office in Brownsville, Texas, was influenced by several governmental regulations calling for office staff to work in cubicles. As a result, the project required flexibility in the design of the interior—so, in order to avoid obstructive columns, clear span construction was the obvious choice.
Overall, the pre-engineered metal building by Metallic Building Company was chosen because of its durability and ability to withstand strong winds in inclement weather. This particular structure’s windload is 130 mph and the roof has a UL 90 wind uplift rating to withstand high Texas winds. Metallic’s 22-gauge PBR roofing, installed at a ½:12 pitch, was employed because of its ability to create an even-shadowed appearance. Spanish tile roofing accents the entrance to the facility.
Construction of the Social Security Administration Office in Brownsville started in February 2008 and was completed in July 2008. The project’s team included Dura Bilt Products, Inc. of Albuquerque, New Mexico, who was the contractor and designer; and Precision Steel Works of Pharr, Texas, who served as the erector and roof contractor.
Metallic Building Company supplied the metal building system which measured 102’ 8” x 167’ 8”, with a 15’ eave height.
