Metal Systems From Varco Pruden Buildings Aid Creation Of Texas Church

Situated in Wichita Falls, Texas, the new Our Lady Queen Of Peace Catholic Church Worship Center features metal building systems and related products by Varco Pruden Buildings, a division of BlueScope Buildings North America, Inc.

Completed in July 2009, the 21,890 sq. ft. worship center utilizes Rigid Frame and Continuous Beam framing systems. The unique center section of the structure features four gables and valleys, allowing for four wings that give the overall building a cross configuration. The exterior walls are a combination of stone veneer, split face CMU, cast stone, and an EIFS wall system. Stone was used at the main entrances and inside at the altar and baptistry.

It was noted that the frames in the sanctuary were enclosed in drywall furdowns to not only create an architectural feature, but also to hide ductwork, sprinkler systems and electrical runs. Meanwhile, steps in the roofs allowed for the addition of stained glass windows. Spandrel beams support the wall framing system and were furred out to the match the roof furdowns.

The project is covered by Varco Pruden Buildings’ SLR roofing, an architectural/structural concealed-fastener system, in a Cool Dark Bronze color.

The Varco Pruden Builder was M & F Litteken Co. of Wichita Falls, Texas. The project was designed by Harper Perkins Architects, Inc. of Wichita Falls, Texas. The worship center is owned by the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth.
