Dri-Design Panels Provide Renovation Solution For Aging Tennessee Mall

The 40-year-old One Hundred Oaks Mall in Nashville has undergone a major transformation to become a significant mixed-use development with the major tenant being Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Playing a role in the shopping center's modernization was a Dri-Design dry-joint, pressure-equalized rainscreen wall system. The system's 40,000 sq. ft. of panels were formed from .080" aluminum and feature a Dove Gray paint finish.

The exterior façade of the 880,000 sq. ft. mall was originally brick, precast and EIFS. The renovation plan required knocking out exterior walls and creating framed openings for windows.

Installation of the Dri-Design panels was done by JWC Specialties, Nashville. According to Mike Johnson, project manager and owner of JWC, the design originally called for ACM to clad the structure. “We had recently finished another Dri-Design job and suggested using it on One Hundred Oaks as a cost saving idea. It really looks good.”

The project's architect was Gresham Smith & Partners, Nashville.

Dri-Design panels can be made from a variety of materials including painted aluminum, zinc, copper and stainless steel, and are 100% recyclable. Panels are available in any Kynar color in both standard and custom sizes.
