Ocean City Community Center
Metal Roofing Meets Performance Objectives For New Jersey Community Center
The Ocean City Community Center began as a modest fitness center with racquetball courts, and also included a natatorium and library. Located in Ocean City, NJ, the community center’s continued growth in popularity prompted city administrators and the library’s board of directors to initiate several renovations and additions in an effort to create a true community center. A high-performance standing seam metal roof system from The Garland Company Inc. is now featured on the facility.
Aside from the additions, city administrators wanted to improve the building’s aesthetics and functionality by brining everything under one roof. A metal standing seam roofing system and concealed-clip wall panel system were installed to achieve the city’s performance objectives.
The 16-inch, .040-inch aluminum R-Mer® Span panels from Garland can withstand the most severe weather conditions, providing the durability and watertight integrity needed for long-term performance. In addition to its strength and unsurpassed watertight protection, the standing seam metal system helped dramatically change the look of the building, taking it from a boxy, warehouse structure to a visually appealing facility that is more welcoming to the community it is intended to serve.
A concealed-clip wall panel system was installed over the building’s existing split face block walls to improve aesthetics and provide further watertight protection. An integral part of the project included creating a custom legacy blue color for the metal panels to match the new fenestration system.
The project included 35,000 sq. feet of roofing - 15,000 square feet of modified and 20,000 square feet of metal. Both the metal and modified portions of this high-performance roofing solution were provided by a single, full-service manufacturer and are covered by a 20-year warranty.
The contractor/installer was Arthur J. Ogren, Inc. of Vineland, NJ. The architect was Garrison Architects of Marlton, NJ. The project is owned by the City of Ocean City, represented by Roger Rinck, Manager of Engineering and Construction.
