Metal Building Approach Proves Best For Indoor Riding Arena
With wood framing deemed impractical due to prohibitive spanning requirements, the metal building approach came to the fore as being the best solution for a 12,800 sq. ft. indoor horse riding arena in Carp, Ontario, Canada. Baird Construction Management Ltd. of Carp, an Authorized Robertson Builder, designed and built the structure using products and systems by Robertson Building Systems. Construction began on the building in June 2006 and was completed two months later.
The 80’-wide, 160’-long building has an 18’ eave height and a ½:12 roof pitch. Utilized for its construction was a Robertson clearspan rigid frame system. Special design features included supermarket-style columns and high-bay windows that let in plenty of natural light.
The building is wrapped with 26-gauge Durarib metal wall panels in a Fern Green color, and topped with a mill-finish Galvalume standing seam roof system. Both panel products were manufactured by Robertson.
Sub-contracted to erect the building was A.J.G. Phillion Construction of Orleans, Ontario.
