RHEINZINK® Plays Key Role In Art Museum Expansion

A major expansion of the Indianapolis Museum of Art included extensive RHEINZINK® material used in three different applications. The $74 million project added 140,000 sq. ft. to the Museum including three new wings, 50 percent more gallery space, an outdoor garden court and other visitor amenities.

The cornerstone of the RHEINZINK usage was 40,000 sq. ft. pf Reynobond Zinc Composite Material (ZCM) utilizing RHEINZINK Preweathered Blue-Gray. The ZCM panels were fabricated and installed by Schaffner Heaney Associates, Inc., South Bend, IN.

In addition, 16,000 sq. ft. of RHEINZINK 0.8mm/22 gauge Preweathered Blue-Gray Flat-Lock Tiles (square on diagonal) were fabricated and installed by Henry C. Smither Roofing Company, Indianapolis. Smither Roofing also installed 7,000 sq. ft. of RHEINZINK 0.8mm/22 gauge Preweathered Blue-Gray UC-3 Double-Lock Standing Seam roof panels fabricated by Firestone Metal Products/UNA-CLAD.

Architectural design for the project was provided by Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf Architects, Indianapolis. “The goal of the design team was to create public spaces that welcome and engage the Museum’s visitors and embrace the beauty of the setting,” according to principal architect Jonathan R. Hess. “We are developing a facility that serves and inspires visitors and makes an important contribution to our city and our region.”

The general contractor on the project was F.A. Wilhelm Construction Company, Indianapolis.
