Local Grocery Shopping Returns To Small Illinois Community With Help Of Ceco Building Systems
The 650 residents of the small farming community of Hamel, Ill., 30 miles northeast of St. Louis, had not enjoyed the convenience of a local grocery store in over 10 years. To remedy this problem, four local couples joined together to finance and build D.K.'s Market (named after the initials of the owners' children) and chose as contractor R.W. Boeker Company, also of Hamel, a Ceco Building Systems builder since 1987.
Completed in eight months, the 18,000 square-foot market serves not only those in Hamel but shoppers from a 20-mile radius. The attractive building was a design/build project constructed by Boeker. Project architect was E.R. McDonough & Associates of Edwardsville, Ill.

The facility is 150’ wide by 120’ long, with a portion along one side built for future leasable office space. Unique bays feature an “in-and-out design,” according to Boeker Vice President Scott Boeker. “Each bay has different wall panels – some panels run horizontally, some vertically,” he explained. “And the bays are painted different colors, too, for dramatic effect.”
Ceco CXP panels in Galvalume® finish were used for the roof; wall panels are MAP panel in Lightstone finish. Decorative panels used included PBA panels in Desert Sand and Rustic Red finish and 7.2 panel in Lightstone finish.
