Cochiti Campground
Copper-Colored Shelters Lend Bright Accent to Cochiti Lake Campground
As part of the Cochiti Campground’s Phase II development plan, a series of attractive, copper-colored curved panel shelters were constructed to provide shade for picnicking and play. Located in New Mexico in Sandoval County, the project included the construction of about 30 such shelters. They were fabricated by Classic Recreation Systems, Inc. using metal roof panels that had been custom curved by Curveline, Inc., Ontario, California.
Classic Recreation specializes in pre-fabricated steel shelters that can be quickly assembled at the job site using hidden bolt connections. The Cochiti project utilizes Classic’s 12’ x 12’ Colorado curved roof model, manufactured using approximately 4,300 sq. ft. of HR-36 exposed-fastener roof panels from AEP Span of West Sacramento, California. The Cool Copper Penny paint finish combines with the crimp-curving dimple pattern to create an attractive, textured look that effectively reflects the sun’s hot rays. The panels were formed from 24-gauge steel and utilize a standard DuraTech® cool roof finish.
The recreation site/campground is located within the boundaries of the Pueblo de Cochiti Indian Reservation. Cochiti Lake is on the Rio Grande, about halfway between Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Cochiti Dam is one of the ten largest earth fill dams in the US. The recreation area is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The project was designed by J. McKenna with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The general contractor was M.V. Industries from Cochiti Lake.
Classic Recreation’s Colorado curved-roof shelters come in a wide variety of sizes ranging from 8’ to 50’ in width. There’s no limit to the length they can be produced in.
Custom sizes and options are also offered. For these shelters and other projects, Curveline can curve the roofing panels to virtually any desired radii to meet design requirements. Crimp-curving has been shown to greatly increase the load factor of the roof panels, making it possible to achieve wide spans with minimal framing and without sub-roofing.

About Curveline
In 1985, Curveline brought a patented crimp-curving technology from Europe to the U.S. and established a panel-curving service center in Ontario, California. Since then, Curveline has offered maximum design flexibility due to curving technology which is not linked to a single product line. Using the Curveline profile list, architects and specifiers may source panels from manufacturers in 100+ factory locations and specify desired angle and radius of curvature, including simple, complex and multi-radius curves.
