Petersen Roofing Selected For First Building On New Campus
The Bartow Center is the first building on a new campus for Georgia Highlands College, Cartersville, GA, a two-year institution of the University of Georgia system. The 100,000 sq. ft. facility is somewhat of a campus-under-one-roof with class rooms, administrative offices, science labs, library and student areas.
Approximately 70,000 sq. ft. of Snap-Clad™ 28 gauge Follansbee TCS II standing seam panels were utilized on the roof with an additional 15,000 sq. ft. of TCS II for flashing and the gutter system.
The architectural aesthetic was derived from the rural heritage of the area. The site itself was originally a test farm for the University of Georgia, according to project architect Christopher Bivins with Cooper Carry Architects, Atlanta. “Knowing this was the first building in the master plan, we tried to set a look that would allow flexibility in the future and yet draw on the agricultural heritage even as the area became suburbanized. Thus, the use of the TCS to somewhat recall the tin roofs on earlier farm structures,” according to Bivins. “The material mixes well with the red brick and Georgia granite which will also be used on future buildings.”
The Snap-Clad roof was installed by Atlanta Metal Systems, Jonesboro, GA. The general contractor on the project was Aviation Construction Inc., Atlanta.
Produced in factory formed lengths up to 55 feet, Petersen Aluminum’s PAC-CLAD Panels are Herr-Voss corrective leveled to provide superior flatness. Longer lengths are available by consulting the factory. All are available in 36 standard colors on steel and 34 standard colors on aluminum.
