Nucor Building Systems Raises More Than $8,000 For Charity Through Cook-Off
Terrell, TX - Nucor Building Systems raised more than $8,000 for Relay for Life through its first “Cooking for a Cure” BBQ Cook-Off on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Terrell (Texas) Municipal Airport.
The event, which was sanctioned by Lone Star Barbeque Society, featured 39 teams all competing to win for the best BBQ recipe. More than 200 people attended the event, tasting each recipe and casting their votes. Team Troy King Full Moon BBQ of Wills Point, Texas, was designated the winner.
Nucor Building Systems had two teams compete in the event using a smoker they built from scratch with Nucor steel. The smoker has been used in more than 18 BBQ Cook-Offs across Texas. The team donates their winnings from the events to various charities.
“Nucor Building Systems is always looking for new ways to give back to the community,” said Tom Batterbee, general manager of the Terrell office for Nucor Building Systems. “The cooking team gives our employees a fun way to pursue a Texas tradition and to support important causes such as Relay for Life. We plan to make ‘Cooking for a Cure’ an annual event.”
