Behlen Adds Canadian CSA A660 To List Of Quality Certifications
Columbus, NE - Behlen Mfg. Co. announces that it has earned CAN/CSA A660 certification – a mandatory requirement of steel building system suppliers who provide engineered structures to Canada. This certification, along with the certification from the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) obtained in June 2009, allows Behlen to design, manufacture, and supply Canadian provinces with complete steel building systems. It also provides Behlen Building Systems the distinction of having four significant quality marks, including International Accreditation Service (IAS) AC472 accreditation and ISO 9001 certification, to go along with these two Canadian certifications.
The CSA A660 Standard allows code enforcement officials to protect the public and ensure building owners receive a quality certified building. All manufacturers certified under the CSA A660 Standard are required to have their quality assurance programs certified by an independent third party agency. Behlen selected Quality Systems Assessment Registrar (QUASAR), a division of CWB Group Industry Services, to complete the necessary audit to achieve certification. QUASAR completed the audit at the Columbus, Nebraska world headquarters and manufacturing plant where all Behlen buildings are produced.
The audit included review of all aspects of the steel building system design and manufacturing process including: personnel training, design and engineering, materials control, fabrication, warehousing, packaging, shipping, and plant quality program. As part of the quality assurance the CSA A660 certification provides, all manufacturers must provide a “Certificate of Design and Manufacturing Conformance” with every building that is signed and sealed by a licensed Professional Engineer. Having established quality systems already in place was a distinct advantage to Behlen Building Systems in successful completion of the CSA A660 audit. Behlen has maintained ISO 9001 certification since 1999 and was the first metal building manufacturer in the United States to achieve IAS AC472 accreditation in May 2009.
Achieving CSA A660 certification opens up additional opportunities for Behlen to grow and establish its presence in the Canadian construction market. The extensive Behlen builder network currently extends across many states that border Canada from Washington to Pennsylvania.
