Arkema Announces Sherwin-Williams As First Trademark Licensee For Kynar 500® FSF®
King of Prussia, PA - Arkema Inc. has signed an amendment to its existing trademark licensee agreement with The Sherwin-Williams Company for Kynar 500® architectural coatings, making Sherwin-Williams the first Kynar 500® Fluorosurfactant Free (FSF®) trademark licensee in the world. Sherwin-Williams will market the Kynar 500® FSF® resin-based coating under the name Sher-Nar® Fluorosurfactant Free coatings.
Since 1965, PVDF coatings based upon KYNAR 500® PVDF resin have protected metal building components on buildings across the globe. They have been widely recognized as some of the world’s most durable metal coatings. Their extreme longevity and low maintenance have made them the first choices for architects and specifiers on each major continent. The field-proven Sher-Nar® Fluorosurfactant Free coatings are available in a range of color and finish options.
In recent years, perfluorinated surfactants, such as perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and higher related homologues, which have been commonly used in the manufacture of some fluoropolymers, have come under scrutiny by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). These perfluorinated surfactants are subject to a U.S. EPA voluntary stewardship program that seeks reductions and eventual elimination of emissions and product content levels. Arkema is an active participant in this program.
In fact, Arkema produces Kynar 500® PVDF using a patented flurorosurfactant-free (FSF®) process. This means that no fluorosurfactant of any kind is used. Sher-Nar® Fluorosurfactant Free coatings are manufactured exclusively with Kynar 500® FSF® resin technology.
Kynar®, Kynar 500® and FSF® are registered trademarks belonging to Arkema Inc. Sher-Nar® is a registered trademark belonging to SWIMC, Inc.
About Arkema Inc.
For over 40 years, finishes based on Arkema's Kynar 500® PVDF resin have helped protect commercial, industrial, and residential buildings around the world. Kynar 500® is a special grade of PVDF resin used by licensed industrial paint manufacturers as the base resin in long-life coatings for aluminum, galvanized steel, and aluminized steel. Applications include metal roofing and siding, window and door frames, curtain wall and other miscellaneous metal trim and components.
Arkema also offers Kynar Aquatec® coatings which use an innovative technology based on acrylic-modified Kynar® PVDF resin in a convenient emulsion form. Kynar Aquatec® coatings can be applied in the field to protect metal surfaces with a weatherable fluoropolymer based finish. This enables metal surfaces to be touched-up, repaired, or restored. A non-cool metal roof can easily be converted to a white cool roof, the color of the roof can be changed to match building décor, and faded colors can be restored. And, these coatings have good adhesion to previously coated surfaces including Kynar 500® based coatings and acrylic coatings.
