MCA Working To Create Connections For Members While Eliminating Barriers
By Jerry T. Hatley, Jr., Senior Director – Sales, Roll Coater, Inc. & Chairman of the MCA Membership Committee
Today, companies in the metal construction industry have options when choosing which industry associations to pledge their membership. Making the right choice about where to align your time, your expertise, your people, and your dollars has impact on both current and future business opportunities.
The Metal Construction Association has been the definitive, unifying voice for the use of metal in the building envelope since 1984. But I’ll admit that when I first heard about MCA many years ago I was unsure how this organization could benefit my company.
Since then I’ve learned that any company that joins MCA’s mission will find that it is a dynamic organization that continues to provide clear value to its membership. Our initiatives are designed with a view to the future, not the past. We get things done…period.

There are several important reasons to get involved in the association:
• MCA is all about growing the use of metal in construction and joining the association will give you a front row seat to the activities that may affect your business.
• We provide many opportunities to network with colleagues and participate in decisions affecting the industry.
• Our marketing initiatives, including METALCON, The Metal Initiative, the Metal Roofing Alliance, and the Insulated Metal Panels program, provide significant visibility and recognition from decision makers in the design and building communities.
• You make connections to industry experts and colleagues at our national meetings, which provide opportunities to learn about the industry and keep your company at the cutting edge.
• We keep you informed through our meetings, newsletters, website, and technical publications.
• You’ll learn the latest codes and standards, legislative activities and technical research MCA is tracking that affect the use of metal in construction.
• Finally, you’ll have a chance to make a difference in a great industry.
MCA provides members with the resources they need to get their products to market. Our members work together on programs that position metal to be the material of choice. As more manufacturers, distributors, coil coaters, metal producers and others join MCA and are involved in positioning metal favorably within total construction projects, the more successful all of us will be.
We’ve recently learned that our efforts have had a positive effect on the industry. Results of a recent Market Share Study conducted by FMI Corporation show that the metal construction industry has gained significant market share on a square foot basis. These gains give strong evidence that the promotional and educational initiatives of industry leaders like MCA are having a real impact on the market.
According to the study, in the past 5 years commercial roofing has gained 17.6 percent; institutional roofing has gained 25.7 percent, commercial walls 22.7 percent and institutional walls 20.7 percent.
Whether you’re already a member of MCA, or still learning more about it, MCA is your partner in growing the metal construction industry. We’re always looking for more members to get involved in our initiatives and our programs, including participation in councils, committees or even the board of directors.
I invite you to visit our website at www.metalconstruction.org , attend our next national meeting in January, or contact a current member to learn more about what MCA can do for you.
Take the initiative to join an organization that will benefit you and your company, now and in the future.
