A 2005 study by Ducker Research Company—commissioned by the Metal Construction Association and sponsored by Houston, TX-based MBCI, analyzed groups of buildings in different geographic regions of the United States. The primary purpose of the research was to compare the performance of low-sloped metal roofing with asphalt and single-ply in three key areas: total service life, life-cycle cost and maintenance costs. Secondary goals of the research focused on gaining a better understanding of the purchase decision process for roofs and maintenance.
Among the highlights of a survey are that building owners expect their metal roofs to outlast asphalt and single-ply systems, and that they are happier with their roofs than the owners of buildings topped with those other types of systems.
